Life Hack Wednesday: Keep Those Plants Watered While on Vacation

Justine is a genius!!! Pet care and then plant care, two of the biggest challenges when it comes to your Summer vacation. I just came back from a weekend away and had to do some emergency surgery to take care of the flowers growing on my balcony. (I think they'll be ok). If you have house plants that you care for, Justine has the best hack to keep them watered while you are away.

First, grab a big pot (one that you would boil potatoes or a big serving of spaghetti in) and fill with water.

Prop the pot up above where your plants will be.

Surround the pot of water with your plants.

Grab some macrame string (you can order off Amazon). Put one end of the string at the bottom of the pot of water and the other end deep in the soil of your plant.

While you're gone on vacation, the plant will use the string as a straw and it will draw the water into the plant.

When Justine returned from her 12 day vacation, all but one plant were just fine. The plant that didn't fare soe well was basil and that's hard to maintain anyway. Great hack!
