Netflix announced that they brought in an additional 8.8 million customers in the third quarter, which brings their total subscriber count to 247.2 million. Even with this surge of subscribers, Netflix is raising their prices once again.
The price hike is effective immediately for the U.S., France and U.K. The premium plan will increase by $3, which will now be $22.99/month, and their basic plan will increase by $2 to come out to $11.99/month. The premium and basic plans are the only ones being affected by the price hike as the ad-supported plan will remain at $6.99/month.
"As we deliver more value to our members, we occasionally ask them to pay a bit more," Netflix stated in a letter to its shareholders. "Our starting price is extremely competitive with other streamers and at $6.99 per month in the U.S., for example, it's much less than the average price of a single movie ticket."
