New CA Water Restrictions - Officials Adopt Ban On Watering Certain Areas

Today the State Water Resources Control Board adopted a ban where people will not be allowed to water on certain green spaces.

This comes as Gov. Gavin Newsom warned Californians to use less water or they will face harsher water restrictions as the drought continues. Violators can be fined $500 per day if they water non-functional turf at commercial and industrial sites.

Beginning June 10th, watering outside businesses, industrial facilities, institutions, hospitals, government facilities and spaces managed by homeowners' associations will not be allowed. Grass that is used for decoration and not for regular activities or events cannot be watered.

The ban doesn't apply to parks, sports fields, people's lawns or for those watering trees. The board also voted that 400 local water districts that supply California cities and towns must step up their conservation actions. Click here for more about the new California water restrictions.
