Three Men Claim To Break Cross Country Driving Record

I thought the Cannon Ball Run was a movie. Ok, i've never seen the movie. I think Burt Reynolds starred in it in the 70s. Anyway, the term Cannon Ball Run popped up in the news this week. Three men claim they made the Cannon Ball Run, a cross country trip across the United State in record time. Arne Toman, Douglas Tabbutt and Berkeley Chadwick claim they took off from Manhattan in New York City at 12:57AM on November 11th. They say they arrived in Redondo Beach, California 27 hours and 25 minutes later. The previous record was 28 hours and 50 minutes. They drove in a Mercedes and claimed to have driven up to 193 miles per hour, though, their average speed was 103 miles per hour. They say it took 20 different police scouts to avoid getting pulled over. Weather was on their side, too.
