Petition Is Asking Trader Joe's To Change Labels Of Some Ethnic Foods

If you are a Trader Joe's shopper, no doubt, you've noticed that not all of their items use the "Trader Joe's" brand name. Some of the ethnic foods, specifically the Hispanic and Asian cuisines, use Trader Jose and Trader Ming's. A petition is currently circulating asking Trader Joe's to change the labeling of these foods noting that the names are racist. The petition has over 1,400 names.

Earlier this year, the Aunt Jemima, Eskimo Pie and Uncle Ben's brands have revealed they will update their racist packaging.

The petition may not be necessary as Trader Joe's says they have already begun changing their branding for the Mexican and Chinese cuisine. They say, "the product naming may have been rooted in a lighthearted attempt at inclusiveness, we recognize it may have had the opposite effect."
