Des Moines' oldest LGBTQ+ nightclub is temporarily closed. The Garden Nightclub lost its lease and closed its doors on January 3rd. But, it's not over for the Garden. Owner Rusty Jones tells the Des Moines Register that the club lost its lease due to the creation of the new Market District just south of East Village. The building that houses the Garden has been sold and will be part of the Market redevelopment that will add apartments, retail and riverside space South of East Village. Rusty Jones promises that the Garden will move to a new space in East Village. Change is hard, but change is good. . . as long as drag shows are involved!
