The pandemic has made crazy changes to everything, including government issued IDs. If your driver's license expired last year, as part of Governor Kim Reynolds' Emergency Disaster Proclamation, your license doesn't really expire until January 9th, 2021, which is tomorrow. Right now, the wait to get into an Iowa DOT location is about two weeks. They do incur cancellations everyday, so they recommend that you check the website first thing in the morning for any open slots to get in and get legal. If your license expired in December, you do have a 60-day grace period to get it renewed.
The best thing to do would be to try to renew your driver's license online at iowadot.gov.
