Dress For Success is a national organization that helps women overcome obstacles to find employment. They've worked with women in shelters and women just out of prison to help them find jobs. They have boutiques across the country where women in transition can get outfitted for job interviews. Once they get the job, the help doesn't stop, they are given a wardrobe of business clothing and other types of assistance to help them maintain their jobs and continue to successfully maintain their households. It's a great organization and we have a chapter in Des Moines run by a great board of women, including the super fabulous Executive Director Jody White!
Right now, if you go to YourHourHerPower.org, you can see an initiative created by Dress For Success that asks you to donate an hour of pay to enhance the lives of women who need empowerment. If you're looking to commemorate International Women's Day, this is a great way to do so. The premise is that when a woman has access to opportunities that can changer her life, she becomes powerful beyond measure.
