The Court Avenue Entertainment District will soon become an enclosed Entertainment District hosting street parties on the weekend. After a couple of shootings recently, a plan had to be made to keep the area safe and thriving. Des Moines leaders decided that an enclosed entertainment district would be the way to go. Roads in the district will be closed to street traffic on weekend evenings and patrons will need to go through a security screen to enter.
The barricades to keep vehicles out will be up from 9pm to 2am on Fridays and Saturdays from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend. This will allow businesses to expand their patio seating, too. Leaders envision DJs and live bands playing in the streets soon, too.
