Worth the wait! The Season Finale of Saturday Night Live was one of the better shows from this weird season, maybe the best show of the season. Lil Nas X's wardrobe malfunction wasn't the only highlight. The entire show seemed to have an emotional undertone. In fact, the show's cold open was the cast reflecting on he weird year. It started with Keenan Thompson, Cecily Strong, Aidy Bryant and Kate McKinnon. They all appeared to be emotional with Kate McKinnon even getting choked up and re-doing her line about the cast being a "family." My spirit fell when I thought that, perhaps, this could be the end for these cast members. They are my favorites and they have been on the show for quite awhile. A typical SNL contract is for 7 years. All of them have been on the show longer than that. In fact, if it seems like Keenan Thompson has been on the show forever, it's because he is the longest running cast member finishing up 18 seasons on Saturday night.
If you watched Pete Davidson's final sketch on "Weekend Update," he closed with "It's been an honor growing up in front of you." If that doesn't sound like a farewell, I don't know what more he can say. And then Cecily Strong finished her "Weekend Update" by singing "My Way" by Frank Sinatra. That sounded pretty final, too.
Keenan Thompson has his own NBC show that was just renewed for a second season, it would make sense for him to call it a day at SNL. Bummer. Thanks for the laughs!
