Tips to Do The Iowa State Fair On A Budget

I love a good deal! The Iowa State Fair is coming up and, as you know, it's nearly impossible to get everything in that you want to do in just one day! If you're planning on taking multiple trips to the Iowa State Fair, it comes with a price. I mean that deep fried Snickers bar isn't exactly free! The Dan + Shay concert isn't free, either.

If you want to save some money this year at the fair, the secret is to purchase as many tickets as you can in advance. Starting this week, the Iowa State Fair Ticket Office, located on the front porch of the Administration office will be open during the week. You can stop by and purchase advance tickets. Hours are 9am - 4:30pm Monday - Friday and 9am until noon on Saturdays.

If you purchase your admission tickets in advance, you'll save. Tickets are $9 in advance and $14 at the gate for those 12 and older. Kids 6 - 11 are $5 in advance and $8 at the gate. Kids 5 and under are free.

The State Fair Value Pack will save you a bunch of money. Get $34 worth of value for just $20! This is what's included in the State Fair Value Pack:

  • Thrill Park wristband with 5 credits
  • 1 Ye Old Mill or Snakes Alive or Train Exhibit
  • 1 Kids Bungee Jump or Krazy Maze
  • 1 Giant Slide
  • 1 Sky Glider
  • 4 $1 food/beverage coupons
  • 1 Cup of Barksdale's State Fair Cookies

You can order your Thrill Park wristbands in advance, too, to save some money. You can purchase Unlimited ride bands or Advance wristbands that are good for rides and games.

Go to the Iowastatefair.org website to purchase there or visit the box office.
