Mountain Lion Spotted On Des Moines' Northside

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has confirmed that a large animal caught on someone's ring camera in the overnight hours Sunday morning is a Mountain Lion. The animal was spotted on the north side of Des Moines. From time to time, there are mountain lion spottings in the Des Moines area. They don't tend to stick around. The Iowa DNR says Iowa doesn't have a breeding population. The mountain lions tend to come here from other places where there are breeding populations when older males chase the young males away.

For further sightings, i'm sure you can check your Nextdoor app. For safety, I wouldn't lead small pets outside unattended, though.
