If we didn't have outdoor cameras set up, we might never know about this massive mountain lion roaming through Central Iowa. Late last year, a confirmed mountain lion was spotted on a ring camera on the Northside of Des Moines. The latest spotting of this mountain lion was Monday night in rural Dallas County. Someone had an outdoor camera set up to monitor deer and spotted the big cat on the camera.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says there is not a breeding population for mountain lions in Central Iowa. Male mountain lions will travel far distances in search of food and mating opportunities. The closest breeding population is in South Dakota, 600 miles away.
