For the first time, there will be a girls wrestling program in the Des Moines Public Schools System. There will be one program for all schools based at East High School. Assistant coaches will work with girls at other schools like Roosevelt, Hoover and Lincoln. The district has hired their first coach, Samantha Bush, an Assistant Coach at Grandview University's female wrestling program.
Competition begins November 14. This is the first year that girls wrestling is sanctioned by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union.
