At least one mountain lion has been spotted in Warren and Madison counties. A mountain lion was caught on a trail camera in Madison county recently. There have, also, been sightings in St. Charles and New Virginia.
The Department of Natural Resources confirms the animal caught on camera is a mountain lion, but they are unable to confirm if the sighting is the same animal or multiple mountain lions.
There is no threat to the public as the animal has been spotted in rural areas far away from humans. They are not interested in being near people.
The DNR says they have no record of a self-sustaining breeding population of mountain lions in Iowa.
